FJ40249055 The FJ40 generation of Toyota Land Cruiser was introduced in 1960, with the final one being produced a remarkable 41 years later.
With a remarkable history of providing reliable service even in the most rugged conditions, the Land Cruiser proved to be a popular alternative to the Jeep and Land Rover utility vehicles, but more importantly, it showed the world that Toyota could produce more than just economical cars.
The 1977 Toyota Land Cruiser on offer today was thoroughly restored under previous ownership and benefits from numerous upgrades, improving both its drive and useability.
Starting with a standard Land Cruiser, the vehicle was stripped to bare metal before being restored.
This served as the perfect base to upgrade the original engine with a General Motors Ram Jet 350 cu-in V8 crate motor, mated to a four-speed 4L60-E automatic transmission, creating a cascade effect where the other mechanical aspects were upgraded.
The transfer case was rebuilt, and both front and rear axles were overhauled before being installed with a new 2.
5-inch suspension lift kit from Old Man Emu with Bilstein shock absorbers.
A tilting steering column was added along with power steering.
Four-wheel disc brakes were installed to manage the increased power better.
Turning to the cosmetic aspects of this Toyota, the body was stripped to bare metal and refinished with polyurethane Patriot Blue Pearl paint, with a contrasting white roof and grille.
Inside, the color scheme continued with dark blue leather with white diamond stitching and piping covering the door panels, front seats, and rear folding jump seats.
For added protection, a custom six-point RMX roll cage was installed.
A Kenwood head unit with a forward and rear-facing backup camera has been installed in the dash and complemented with a Cerwin-Vega amplifier.
Custom gauges from Stuart-Warner were installed with a carbon fiber mounting plate, along with a modern, under-dash-mounted air conditioning system.
Today, this splendid Land Cruiser remains in the same superb condition as when it completed its two-year-long restoration.
With improved comfort and performance, it is the ideal vehicle to continue the journey long after the pavement ends.
