01497 This sporting Mercedes-Benz 190 SL has been cared for since 2000 by the SL specialists at Precision Autoworks of Camden, NJ.
Beginning in June 2000 the car was delivered for a partial restoration by Michael Brockman of New York to return it to its former glory with factory show specification.
The body was partially stripped as new front floors, nose panel, headlight buckets, and quarters were installed, along with contingent rust repair with proper butt weld patches for the wheel wells, stone shield pockets, and lower firewall.
Extreme care was taken for headlight alignment, and optical sightlines for the body with trim fits prior to paintwork.
Just one year later, the windshield was replaced together with the surround and lower seals.
The firewall shelf was repaired, and the brake booster seals were replaced.
Work spread to the interior to reupholster the seats, add the correct style rubber floor mats, and then replace the exhaust system.
The car was acquired by the current owner in 2004 and then updated for cross-country trips with tires, brakes, a 4-way flasher, and an electric lighted clock.
In 2006, to improve performance, the cylinder head received a valve job.
In the process, the compression ratio was increased to 9.
0:
1, the intake valve size was increased to 47 mm, and the intake manifold was ported and polished.
In addition, a Schneider high lift cam was installed.
Further increasing the horsepower and tuning reliability, the Solex carburetors were replaced with four-barrel DCOE18 Webers.
As a result, on a rolling road dynamometer, the car produced 153 horsepower in third gear from 3000 to 4500 rpm.
Now that the car could climb the hills and pass on the interstate more easily, a larger 25mm front sway bar was added, and the car is now suited for a variety of driving events.
More recently, this 190 SL received a major service in 2022, touching most of its mechanical aspects.
The brake system was overhauled with a rebuilt booster, new wheel cylinders, front shoes, and hoses were also replaced.
The ignition distributor was rebuilt along with the generator.
While the transmission was removed to receive new seals and shift bushings, the flywheel was removed for resurfacing before a new clutch, pressure plate, and throw-out bearing were installed.
The cooling system was tested, with the radiator being cleaned and a new water pump installed.
The final work included refreshing the engine bay cosmetics, rebuilding the heater boxes, and installation of the correct 2.
25 inch white wall tires.
As presented today, this 1960 Mercedes-Benz 190 SL is a well-sorted example in an elegant and timeless color scheme.
With its thorough recommissioning work by SL specialists, a recent service, and an accompanying big window hard top, this is a splendid example of a 190 SL in every regard.
